Life In Rehearsal: Episode 1 "Ragtime"

As actors, Rebekah Williams and Megan DeYoung are tasked with portraying characters who navigate some of the most complex and challenging themes in the American experience in Ragtime at the Wonder Theatre. From race and prejudice to wealth and poverty, from freedom and hope to despair, their characters Sarah and Mother embody the struggles and triumphs of a nation grappling with change.

But for Williams and DeYoung, this is more than just a performance. It's an opportunity to engage with these themes on a personal level and to use their art to create a deeper understanding and connection with the audience. By embodying the struggles and triumphs of their characters, they hope to inspire empathy and compassion, and to shine a light on the ongoing struggle for justice and equality.

And as the final show takes place at the Woodlawn Theatre, they are reminded of the importance of community-driven art and the power of theatre to bring people together. They hope that their portrayal of Sarah and Mother will not only entertain, but also challenge and inspire the audience to continue to fight for a better world.

Introducing "Life In Rehearsal," a Down Market culture series that explores the intersection of Life, Art, Performance, and Community. We're thrilled to kick off this series with Episode 1, which takes you behind the scenes of the historic Woodlawn Performing Arts Theatre in San Antonio, Texas.

Together with our community partner, The Woodlawn Theatre, we're pulling back the curtain to give you an exclusive look at what it takes to make magic on stage.
